Baseball Recap: Overfelt Gets the Win

Overfelt posted their closest win since April 7th on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the San Jose Bulldogs, sneaking past 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

ELIJAH CASTANEDA-AZCUETA made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Overfelt: the team is 7-3 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-8 otherwise.

In other batting news, ALFREDO GALLEGOS MEDINA and BRANDON GONZALEZ did most of the damage at the plate: GALLEGOS MEDINA went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, while GONZALEZ went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most doubles GONZALEZ has posted since back in April. BRIAN BECERRA DADO was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Overfelt always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Jose only posted an OBP of .308.

The victory got Overfelt back to even at 11-11. As for San Jose, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.

Coming up, Overfelt will head out on the road to face off against Yerba Buena at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Aztec Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.74 runs per game on average), something the Royals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for San Jose, they will welcome Mt. Pleasant at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
