Calais hasn't had much luck against Mattanawcook recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Blue Devils will head out to challenge the Lynx at 1:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Calais will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Woodland, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. The Blue Devils put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 14-4 win on Friday. The victory was familiar territory for the Blue Devils, who have now won six contests in a row.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mattanawcook). They were the clear victors by a 20-4 margin over Stearns on Friday. The Lynx haven't had any issues with the Minutemen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Isaac Ritchie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on True Weatherbee, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and five RBI. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Mahaney, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Mattanawcook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stearns only posted an OBP of .423.
Calais' record now sits at 9-2. As for Mattanawcook, their record is now 10-2.
Calais couldn't quite finish off Mattanawcook in their previous meeting on May 6th and fell 3-1. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
