Basketball Recap: Southmont Comes Up Short

Southmont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were outmatched by the Parke Heritage Wolves and fell 85-58. If the Mounties were looking for revenge after losing 68-46 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Southmont's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Vince Reimondo, who went 6 of 12 en route to 20 points and three steals. Reimondo continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Aaron Mcmasters was another key player, putting up 14 points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Southmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Parke Heritage got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Treigh Schelsky out in front who dropped a double-double with 19 points and ten assists. Thanks to that strong game, Schelsky now owns an excellent 45.5% shooting accuracy. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Crum, who made all 9 shots he took racking up 22 points and five boards.

Southmont's defeat dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Parke Heritage, they pushed their record up to 16-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Looking ahead, Southmont will head out to face off against South Vermillion at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southmont is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.8 points per game this season. As for Parke Heritage, they will host Fountain Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
