Basketball Recap: Middle Creek Takes a Loss

If Middle Creek was feeling good fresh off their 72-18 takedown of Western Harnett last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Middle Creek Mustangs took a 53-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Forsyth Titans on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Titans are ranked 36th).

Loss or not, Middle Creek got some senior leadership from Yasir Hall and Greyson Land. Hall posted 14 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Land earned 16 points and seven rebounds. That's the most boards Land has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Cornelius, who had five points.

Jacari Brim continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for West Forsyth, going 10 of 15 on his way to 25 points along with five assists and five boards. Kamauri Manuel was another key player, putting up 13 points along with six assists and five boards.

Middle Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for West Forsyth, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-1.

Middle Creek didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 74-53 win against Lee County on the 28th. As for West Forsyth, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 72-44 victory against Green Hope on the 28th.
