Calhoun is 0-10 against Gillespie since April of 2018 but things could change on Wednesday. The Warriors will face off against the Miners at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
While Calhoun's win against Staunton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Bulldogs 6-4. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Warriors.
Selby Pohlman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Pohlman was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs.
In other batting news, Easton Wallendorf was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025.
Meanwhile, Gillespie got the win against Litchfield on Tuesday by a conclusive 9-1. The result was nothing new for the Miners, who have now won four matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.
Luke Schuckenbrock spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.
On the hitting side, Collin Griffith and Braden Reich did most of the damage at the plate: Griffith got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Reich went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Brayden Enslow, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.
Calhoun now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Gillespie, their record now sits at 7-1.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Calhoun hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .396. However, it's not like Gillespie struggles in that department as they've averaged .389. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Calhoun couldn't quite finish off Gillespie in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
