Weed hasn't had much luck against Etna recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Lions at 2:00 p.m.
Weed lost 12-4 to Mt. Shasta on Friday.
Meanwhile, Etna came tearing into Friday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 30-1 win. Considering the Lions have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Clayton Harris was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Etna got a massive performance out of Noah Hubbard, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. That's the most runs Hubbard has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jacob O'Brien, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles.
Etna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Etna's victory was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Weed, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Weed might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Etna in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
