Jorge Amaya of Hawkins (Los Angeles) became the fifth player in history to throw for over 700 yards in a game as he had 739 yards in a 46-26 win over West Adams (Los Angeles) last week.
Amaya's total is 25 yards short of David Koral's state record of 764 yards, set in 2000 when Koral was at Palisades. Amaya's total ranks third all-time in national history behind Koral and Will Grier of Davidson Day (Davidson, N.C.), who had 837 yards in one game in 2012.
A Florida quarterback set two records last week and his name wasn't Tucker Israel. Jordan Watkins of John Carroll Catholic (Fort Pierce, Fla.) set state records for completions and attempts in a game when he went 52 of 64 for 512 yards and six touchdowns in a 70-49 loss to The First Academy (Orlando, Fla.). His completion total ranks fourth all-time nationally.
Warren Flye of Plainview became the 11th Texas player, according to Texas High School Football History, to rush for over 500 yards in a game with 504 yards on just 21 carries and five touchdowns in a 53-21 win over Lake View.
Ethan Fremder of Piketon (Ohio) had the 12th best rushing performance in Ohio history with 461 yards in a 56-26 win over Southeastern (Chillicothe). Fremder had 51 carries, which likely ranks among the most ever by an Ohio running back. The Ohio state association record book does not keep records on rushing attempts.
