Emilio Oseguera and Oscar Reyes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Oseguera tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Reyes tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Oseguera has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. At bat, Oseguera went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Reyes got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave Reyes a new career-high.
In other batting news, South San Francisco got a big performance out of Adam Keith, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Keith has posted since back in March. Yordonis Medina-Pineda was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
South San Francisco hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Crystal Springs Uplands posted their closest win since March 31st on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Westmoor, sneaking past 3-1. The victory continues a trend for the Gryphons in their matchups with the Rams: they've now won five in a row.
Marcus Kao and Brandon Ma were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Kao tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ma struck out ten batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. At the plate, Kao earned one run and two stolen bases, while Ma got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Uchida, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Nick Loew, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases.
Crystal Springs Uplands' win bumped their record up to 16-2. As for South San Francisco, their victory bumped their record up to 18-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. South San Francisco has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Crystal Springs Uplands struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went South San Francisco's way against Crystal Springs Uplands when the teams last played back in April, as South San Francisco made off with an 8-0 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Gryphons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
