It was a good run, but the Lakewood Lancers unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They took a hard 59-43 fall against Long Beach Poly. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Lakewood has scored all season.
Lakewood's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nyemah King, who scored 24 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, and Cristina Jones who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. That was a full 55.8% of Lakewood's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Lakewood's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-3. As for Long Beach Poly, they pushed their record up to 12-7 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lakewood will take on Millikan at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Millikan will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 355th, while Lakewood is ranked 61st). Long Beach Poly won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lynwood at 5:00 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Lynwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Saturday.
