The St. Francis Sharks will take on the Aptos Mariners at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Francis is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
St. Francis took a loss when they played away from home on Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Soledad by a score of 11-7. The Sharks haven't had any issues with the Aztecs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Javier Fonseca, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nash Horton, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Aptos can bid farewell to their five-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Saturday. They walked away with a 6-1 victory over Menlo School.
Jason Yager and Cole McGillicuddy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Yager didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, McGillicuddy tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Yager a new career-low in earned runs (zero). At the plate, Yager went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI, while McGillicuddy scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Dom Castillo was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Nate Garcia, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
St. Francis pushed their record up to 3-3 with the win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Aptos, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
St. Francis' speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's contest. St. Francis has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Aptos, though, as they've been averaging only 0.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will St. Francis continue to outrun the ball?
St. Francis couldn't quite get it done against Aptos in their previous matchup back in April of 2022 as they fell 9-5. Will St. Francis have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
