The Esperanza Aztecs had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They came out on top against Brea Olinda by a score of 52-41. Given Esperanza's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while Brea Olinda is ranked 342nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Esperanza found their leader in underclassman Madilyn Lam, who scored 25 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Lam hasn't dropped below 15points for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Bailey Frazier, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Brea Olinda still got an impressive performance from Liz Han, who scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Henderson, who scored ten points.
Esperanza pushed their record up to 18-3 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Brea Olinda, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Esperanza will take on El Dorado at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. El Dorado will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak. As for Brea Olinda, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Foothill at 5:30 p.m. Hopefully Foothill focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Tuesday.
