Basketball Game Preview: Slippery Rock Rockets vs. Grove City Eagles

Slippery Rock and Grove City are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Slippery Rock Rockets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Grove City Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Slippery Rock is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.3 points per game this season.

Slippery Rock is headed into Thursday's game hungry for a win as their strong season has now been derailed by two straight defeats. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 46-43 heartbreaker at the hands of General McLane. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rockets have suffered since February 15, 2024.

Slippery Rock's defeat came about despite a quality game from Cj Sabo, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. The dominant performance also gave Sabo a new career-high in blocks (three). Another player making a difference was Madison Romanovich, who posted 13 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Slippery Rock smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Grove City beat Maplewood 48-41 on Monday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Grove City is also on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. As for Slippery Rock, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
