Liberty is a perfect 10-0 against Garces Memorial since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Patriots fell just short of the Golden Hawks by a score of 8-7. The defeat continues a trend for the Patriots in their meetings with the Golden Hawks: they've now lost three in a row.
Brogan Witcher made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Jonah Pineda, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 16 runs the game before, Garces Memorial was a bit more limited in their match on Friday. They lost 7-1 to Frontier. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Garces Memorial saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was D'Angelo Flynn, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Nathan Willard also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Liberty's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Garces Memorial, their defeat was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 10-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Liberty hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1 home runs per game. However, it's not like Garces Memorial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Liberty came out on top in a nail-biter against Garces Memorial in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 10-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
