Oceanside is 0-3 against the Mavericks since December of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Oceanside Pirates will head out on the road to face off against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in California (Oceanside is ranked 338th, while the Mavericks are ranked 329th).
While it was all tied up 23-23 at halftime, Oceanside was not quite the Bobcats' equal in the second half on Tuesday. Oceanside fell to the Bobcats 55-50.
The losing side was boosted by Martina Griffin, who scored 28 points along with five rebounds and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Kaitlyn Kaye was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon waltzed into their game on Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 64-55 win over Carlsbad. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Oceanside's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for La Costa Canyon, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
Oceanside couldn't quite finish off the Mavericks when the teams last played back in January and fell 55-53. Can Oceanside avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
