Realmuto, Kyle head list of MaxPreps Medium School All-Americans

J.T. Realmuto ended a spectacular career at Carl Albert by setting a pair of national records and earning state player of the year honors in Oklahoma; however, for Jonathan Alder coach Craig Kyle, the 2010 season was, perhaps, just a peak at spectacular things to come.

MaxPreps has selected Realmuto as the Player of the Year on its Medium School All-American Baseball Team. Meanwhile Kyle has been named as the Medium Schools Coach of the Year.

Realmuto was a stat machine at Carl Albert. Besides reportedly setting a national record with 119 RBI during his senior year, Realmuto also tied a national record with 88 hits. He also led the nation in home runs with 28 and was drafted by the Florida Marlins in the third round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Kyle guided Jonathan Alder to an undefeated (34-0) season climaxing with a 3-2 victory over Walsh Jesuit in the Ohio Division II state championship game. Walsh Jesuit had been ranked No. 1 in the country by MaxPreps earlier in the season. In just his first year with the Pioneers, Kyle was named the Coach of the Year on the Columbus Dispatch All-Metro Team and the Division II Coach of the Year by the Ohio Baseball Coaches Association.

Realmuto and Kyle head a group of 60 players chosen to the MaxPreps Medium School All-American first and second teams. Players are chosen from schools that generally have enrollments from 1,000 to 2,000 students, although some smaller schools and some larger schools may be added into the mix because of their alignment within a state playoff division.

First Team

Daniel Gibson, Jesuit (Tampa, Fla.), Sr - The Florida 4A State Player of the Year by the Dairy Farmers Association, Gibson led Jesuit to the state finals before falling to Archbishop McCarthy. Gibson pitched 85 innings and struck out 120 batters while giving up only 28 walks in building a 14-0 record. He was chosen in the 26th round by the Milwaukee Brewers and has committed to play at the University of Florida.

Tyler Skulina, Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), Pitcher, Sr - The Pitcher of the Year in the Cuyahoga River Conference, Skulina was an all-state selection for the Warriors and finished his career undefeated at 26-0. He posted a 6-0 record as a senior on a team that went 30-2 and finished as the state runnerup in Division 2. He struck out 50 batters in 40.1 innings pitched with 15 walks and a 1.04 ERA. He has committed to play at Virginia, however he was drafted in the 46th round of the MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics.

Mark Lumpa, Bolles (Jacksonville, Fla.), Pitcher, Sr - The Player of the Year by the Jacksonville Times Union, Lumpa finished his career 28-0 on the mound for Bolles while leading the team to two straight Florida 3A state championships. he was 13-0 as a senior with a 0.63 ERA. He struck out 88 batters in 78.1 innings with 21 walks and will play at Duke University.

Dace Kime, Defiance (Defiance, Ohio), Pitcher, Sr - The latest on a long list of great pitchers form Defiance, Kime was a Division II all-state selection and was drafted in the eighth round of the MLB Draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates.he finished the season 7-1 with a 1.31 ERA. He struck out 108 batters and walked 32 in 69.2 innings pitched.

Karsten Whitson, Chipley (Chipley, Fla.), Pitcher, Sr - The son of former MLB pitcher Ed Whitson, Karsten finished the season 7-3 with a 0.62 ERA. He struck out 123 batters in just 55 innings of work with 15 walks and 16 hits allowed. He was the ninth overall pick in the MLB Draft, going to the San Diego Padres.

Nick Baker, Palm Desert (Palm Desert, Calif.), Pitcher, Sr - The Southern Section Division IV player of the year, Baker led Palm Desert to the section championship and shut out Torrance 9-0 in the finals. He posted a 12-2 record with four shutouts, struck out 58 batters and had a 0.97 ERA in 94 innings pitched. He was drafted in the 44th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Adam Duke, Spanish Fork (Spanish Fork, Utah), Pitcher, Sr - The state 4A player of the year in Utah, Duke went to the Boston Red Sox in the 16th round of the MLB Draft. He was the Gatorade State Player of the Year after leading Spanish Fork to the state championship. Duke was 11-0 on the season with a 1.33 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 58 innings. He also batted .419 wtih 30 RBI.

Aaron Sanchez, Barstow (Barstow, Calif.), Pitcher, Sr - The two-time High Desert Area Player of the Year, Sanchez was taken by the Toronto Blue Jays with the No .34 overall pick in the MLB Draft. Sanchez was 7-0 on the mound with a 0.73 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 57.2 innings pitched. He also excelled at the plate, batting .403 with five home runs.

Brandon Sedell, American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.), Catcher, Jr - Selected as the top 3A player in the state of Florida by the Dairy Farmers Association, Sedell led American Heritage with his prowess at the plate as he batted .612 (52-for-85) with 40 runs, 46 RBI, 11 doubles and 9 home runs. He was also named to the All-Broward County team by the Miami Herald and he was the small school MVP by the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel.

Matt Roberts, Graham (Graham, N.C.), Catcher, Sr - The North Carolina State Player of the Year by Gatorade batted .486 (35-for-72) with 12 doubles, 11 home runs and 52 home runs. Committed to North Carolina, Roberts was selected in the 38th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Austin Jarvis, Central (Burlington, Ill.), Catcher, Sr - A first team all-state pick by the Chicago Tribune, Jarvis led his team to a 32-3 record and batted .526 with 15 home runs, 17 doubles, 8 triples and 76 RBI. His RBI total was only four off of the Illinois state record.

Dan Vogelbach, Bishop Verot (Fort Myers, Fla.), First Base, Jr - Named the Player of the Year by the Fort Myers News Preps, Vogelbach batted .551 with nine home runs, 41 runs scored and 39 RBI. He also had 11 doubles and four triples.

Patrick McGavin, Spanish Fort (Spanish Fort, Ala.), First Base, Sr - McGavin led Spanish Fort to the 5A state championship in Alabama and was named the 5A Player of the Year by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. McGavin has committed to play at Alabama next year.

Jt Realmuto, Carl Albert (Midwest City, Okla.), Infield, Sr - The reported national leader in home runs with 28, Realmuto reportedly set a national record with 119 RBI and tied a national record with 88 basehits. He batted .595 (88-for-148) with 78 runs scored and 26 doubles. An all-state pick in football and baseball, Realmuto was The Oklahoman Big City Player of the Year. He was chosen in the third round of the MLB draft by the Florida Marlins. He has signed to play at Oklahoma State.

Nick Castellanos, Archbishop McCarthy (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), Infield, Sr - Named the Gatorade State Player of the Year for Florida, Castellanos was chosen in the compensatory round of the MLB draft by the Detroit Tigers. He helped Archbishop McCarthy win the Florida 4A state championship by batting .542 with 34 runs scored, 39 hits, 8 doubles, 3 triples, 6 home runs and 41 RBI. He also stole 22 bases. He has signed to play at the University of Miami.

Johnny Fasola, Walsh Jesuit (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio), Infield, Sr - Walsh Jesuit vaulted to the No. 1 spot in the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 rankings for part of the season thanks in large part to Fasola, who batted .571 (52-for-91) with 55 runs, 46 RBI, 10 doubles and 10 home runs. Drafted in the 36th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers, Fasola was named the Division 2 state Player of the Year by the Ohio Coaches Association. He has committed to play at Kansas State.

Ryan Brett, Highline (Burien, Wash.), Infield, Sr - The 3A State Player of the Year by the Washington Coaches Association, Brett batted .611 (33-for-54) with 12 doubles and 5 home runs. She also had 20 RBI, 22 stolen bases and 30 runs scored. He was drafted in the third round by the Tampa Bay Rays and has committed to play at Gonzaga.

Caleb Denmark, Bolles (Jacksonville, Fla.), Infield, Sr - The leading hitter for the Florida 3A state champions, Denmark was named to the Times Union All-Area team after batting .453 with 41 RBI, 43 hits, 46 runs, 9 doubles and 8 home runs. He will play at the University of North Florida next year.

Angelo Gumbs, Torrance (Torrance, Calif.), Infield, Sr - Gumbs led Torrance to the Southern Section Division IV championship game in California and was named to the All-Southern Section Division IV team. The New York Yankees selected Gumbs with the 82nd overall pick in the MLB Draft. He batted .495 this year with 22 RBI, 49 hits, 47 runs scored, 14 doubles and 4 home runs.

Delino Deshields., Woodward Academy (College Park, Ga.), Outfield, Sr - The son of former MLB All-Star of the same name, DeShields went to the Houston Astros in the first round of the MLB draft. A possible infielder at the professional level, DeShields played in the outfield in high school and batted .415 (39-for-93) with 11 doubles, 9 home runs, 40 RBI, 41 runs and 29 stolen bases. A standout football player as well, DeShields Jr. has committed to LSU.

Josh Sale, Bishop Blanchet (Seattle, Wash.), Outfield, Sr - A two-time all-state choice in Washington, Sale batted .520 with 27 runs, 26 hits, 6 doubles, 5 home runs and 20 RBI this year as teams learned to pitch around the Bishop Blanchet senior. Considered one of the top pure hitters in the MLB draft, Sale went to the Tampa Bay Rays in the first round. He has a verbal commitment to Gonzaga.

Charles Jones, Boonville (Boonville, Mo.), Outfield, Sr - Picked as the Gatorade State Player of the Year in Missouri, Jones went to the San Francisco Giants in the 7th round of the MLB draft. He batted .525 with 46 RBI, 46 runs scored and 10 home runs while earning all-state Division 3 honors.

Kyle Crockett, Poquoson (Poquoson, Va.), Outfield, Sr - The two-time state player of the year led Poquoson to its second Virginia AA state championship as he batted .479 with 37 runs, 46 hits, 13 doubles, 3 home runs and 33 RBI. On the mound, he was 11-0 with a 1.17 ERA and 92 strikeouts in 61.1 innings pitched. He concluded his career with 38 wins, the second most in Virginia history.

Tim Barry, Oak Forest (Oak Forest, Ill.), Outfield, Jr - One of the more prolific home run hitters in the country, Barry heads into his senior year with 41 career home runs, including 17 during his junior season. He drove in 43 runs this year to give him 170 in his career. An all-state choice for the third time by the Chicago Tribune, Barry batted .578 and scored 46 runs.

Michael Lorenzen, Fullerton (Fullerton, Calif.), Outfield, Sr - Named to the All-Southern Section Division IV team, Lorenzen batted .455 with 46 hits, 35 RBI, 14 doubles, 4 triples and 8 home runs. He went to the Tampa Bay Rays in the 7th round of the MLB Draft. He has committed to play at Cal State Fullerton.

J.R. Bradley, Nitro (Nitro, W. Va.), All-Purpose, Sr - Bradley won player of the year honors on the West Virginia AAA all-state team after leading Nitro to the state championship. Bradley was 13-0 on the mound with a 0.61 ERA and 109 strikeouts. At the plate he batted .483 with 13 home runs, 15 doubles and 52 RBI. He was chosen in the second round of the MLB draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He has signed to play at North Carolina State.

Trey Masek, Giddings (Giddings, Texas), All-Purpose, Sr - Masek was named the CenTex Player of the Year by the Austin Statesman after leading Giddings to the 3A state championship game in Texas. He went 14-0 on the mound with 143 strikeouts and a 0.78 ERA. he also batted .400 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI. he will play at Texas Tech next year.

Forrest Koumas, Lugoff-Elgin (Lugoff, S.C.), All-Purpose, Sr - The 3A Player of the Year by the South Carolina Coaches Association and the Gatorade State Player of the Year, Koumas led Lugoff-Elgin to the state title and a 20-4 record. He was 9-1 on the mound with a 1.66 ERA and 124 strikeouts in 76 innings pitched. Koumas was one of the top batters in the state with a .474 average and a state-best 18 home runs. He also had 57 RBI and 16 stolen bases.

Andrew Bailey, Chino Valley (Chino Valley, Ariz.), All-Purpose, Sr - Bailey led Chino Valley to the 3A state championship and was named the 3A Player of the Year by the Arizona Coaches Association. He also earned first team all-state honors by the Arizona Republic and was the Prescott Courier's co-player of the year. Bailey went 14-0 on the mound while leading Chino Valley to a 29-2 record. He struck out 100 batters in 85 innings and had a 0.67 ERA and he also batted .461 with six home runs and 38 RBI.

Trae Davis, Mexia (Mexia, Texas), All-Purpose, Sr - Committed to Baylor on a baseball scholarship, Davis was also an All-Super CenTex pick in football. He earned Super CenTex honors by the Waco Tribune in baseball after batting .612 with 52 hits, 40 RBI and 16 doubles while also striking out 97 batters with a 1.68 ERA and an 8-3 record.

Second Team

Jon Phillips, Pleasant Grove (Texarkana, Texas), Pitcher, Sr - Selected to the 3A All-State Team by the Texas Baseball Coaches Association, Phillips helped Pleasant Grove capture the state championship over Giddings and amass a 37-2 record. Phillips was 12-0 on the season, had the win over Estacado in the state 3A semifinals and also hit an inside the park home run to key the win.

Derek Sowell, Jasper (Jasper, Texas), Pitcher, Sr - The District 18-3A MVP and a 3A All-State Team selection, Sowell carried the load for Jasper, going 16-3 on the mound. He also batted .375 for the Bulldogs, who reached the 3A Final Four.

Wes Mugarian, Pensacola Catholic (Pensacola, Fla.), Pitcher, Sr - A fifth round draft pick by the Cincinnati Reds, Mugarian went 26-1 in his high school career with the lone loss coming in his final game of his career to eventual state champion Bolles. Mugarian also struck out 325 batters in 187.2 innings, according to the Pensacola News Journal, and had a career ERA of 1.19. Mugarian also had a pair of no-hitters his senior year.

Paul Paez, Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.), Pitcher, Sr - Paez earned All-Southern Section Division IV honors after going 13-2 on the season with 148 strikeouts, 24 walks and a 0.92 ERA in 84 innings pitched. He has committed to play at University of San Diego.

Ian Kendall, Ashland (Ashland, Ore.), Pitcher, Sr - The Oregon 5A Co-Pitcher of the Year, Kendall struck out 94 batters on the season and had a 0.71 ERA while going 10-3 on the year. He led Ashland to the state championship game and was taken in the fifth round of the MLB Draft by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Ryne Stanek, Blue Valley (Stilwell, Kan.), Pitcher, Sr - Named the Metro Player of the Year by the Kansas City Star, Stanek was taken in the third round of the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners. he was 5-1 on the season with a 0.72 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 48.1 innings pitched.

Colton Loomis, Shepherd (Shepherd, Mich.), Pitcher, Jr - A first team all-state pick by the Detroit News, Loomis was 14-1 this year, giving him a career record of 32-4. He was the winning pitcher in Shepherd's state championship games the past two season and he struck out 160 batters in 89 innings this year with a 1.00 ERA.

Justin Willis, Gibbs (Corryton, Tenn.), Pitcher, Sr - Willis was undefeated on the season at 13-0 while leading Gibbs to the AA state championship in Tennessee. He had a 1.28 ERA and struck out 138 batters. He will play at East Tennessee State next year.

Andrew Valencia, Gulliver Prep (Miami, Fla.), Catcher, Sr - An all-Dade County selection by the Miami Herald, Valencia helped lead Gulliver to the state finals against Bolles while batting .462 with six home runs and 21 RBI.

Jacob Mahon, Jonathan Alder (Plain City, Ohio), Catcher, Sr - A member of the Division II all-state team chosen by the Ohio Baseball Coaches Association, Mahon helped Alder finish the season undefeated (34-0) with a Division II state title. Mahon batted .463 with 44 RBI and two home runs. He also pitched, going 8-0 with a 1.88 ERA and 43 strikeouts.

Jacob Felts, Orangefield (Orangefield, Texas), Catcher, Sr - Headed to the University of Texas, Felts was an all-state selection for the Bobcats. He batted .495 with 48 hits, 39 RBI, 10 doubles and 3 home runs. He was also named the Offensive Player of the Year in District 21-3A.

Nigel Nootbaar, El Segundo (El Segundo, Calif.), First Base, Jr - Named the Daily Breeze Player of the Year, Nootbaar led El Segundo to a league championship and a deep run in the Southern Section playoffs. He batted .425 with 9 home runs, including three in one game. he also had 9 doubles and 47 RBI. On the mound, Nootbaar was 8-0 with a 0.98 ERA and 63 strikeouts in 57 innings.

Nick Miller, Mountain View (Loveland, Colo.), First Base, Sr - Named the 4A Player of the Year in Colorado by the Denver Post, Miller was the only 4A player named to the All-Colorado team. he led Mountain View to a 24-2 record and the state championship. He batted .568 with eight home runs and was also stellar on the mound with a 9-0 record and a 0.76 ERA.

Myles Smith, Divine Child (Dearborn, Mich.), Infield, Sr - An all-state pick by the Detroit News, Smith helped lead Divine Child to the Division 2 championship over Grand Rapids West Catholic. Signed to play at Missouri, Smith batted .343 with eight home runs, 11 doubles and 30 RBI. He also went 8-1 as a pitcher with a 1.58 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 68 innings pitched.

Kolbey Carpenter, West (West, Texas), Infield, Soph - Selected as the Super CenTex Player of the Year by the Waco Tribune, Carpenter was also the District 7-3A MVP after going 10-2 with a 1.81 ERA and 78 strikeouts. He also excelled at the plate with 13 home runs, a .509 batting average, 62 runs, 64 hits, 21 doubles and 59 RBI.

Adam Quintana, San Gorgonio (San Bernardino, Calif.), Infield, Sr - The Southern Section Division 3 Most Valuable Player, Quintana batted .545 with 42 runs scored, 54 hits, 47 RBI, 15 doubles, 5 triples and 4 home runs. He was also the San Andreas League MVP.

Tyler Girouard, Teurlings Catholic (Lafayette, La.), Infield, Sr - Girouard was the hero in the Louisiana 4A state championship game, blasting a pair of three-run homers to lift Teurlings Catholic over Belle Chase 15-7. Named the MVP on the 4A All-State Team, Girouard batted .473 with 15 doubles, 5 triples, 7 home runs and 48 RBI.

Drew Dosch, Canal Winchester (Canal Winchester, Ohio), Infield, Sr - The Central District Player of the Year in Ohio, Dosch batted .682 on the season with 35 RBI and 39 runs scored. He also hit four home runs and stole 11 bases. He was named to the Division II all-state team and had a 5-1 record on the mound with a 2.01 ERA.

Noah Holmes, East Rowan (Salisbury, N.C.), Infield, Sr - An All-Charlotte Observer selection, Holmes was the North Piedmont conference player of the year and helped lead East Rowan to a 3A state title in North Carolina. He batted .468 with 29 RBI and 16 doubles.

Kyle Buchanan, El Dorado (Placerville, Calif.), Outfield, Sr - Buchanan earned a spot on the Sacramento Bee's All-Metro team after leading El Dorado to a 27-3 season and a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV championship game. He batted .414 on the season with 37 runs scored, 50 RBI, 5 doubles, 3 triples and 10 home runs.

Jake Anderson, Woodlawn (Baton Rouge, La.), Outfield, Sr - An all-state player at the 4A level in Louisiana, Anderson was chosen in the seventh round of the MLB draft by the New York Yankees. Anderson batted .625 on the season with 41 runs scored, six home runs and 34 RBI.

Brandon Downes, South Plainfield (South Plainfield, N.J.), Outfield, Jr - The Middlesex County Player of the Year and an all-state selection in New Jersey, Downes batted .484 and drove in 47 runs while blasting 15 home runs for South Plainfield. He also scored 49 runs and rapped 8 doubles.

Ryan Joy, Hartselle (Hartselle, Ala.), Outfield, Sr - A first team 5A all-state choice in Alabama, Joy blasted 71 hits in 167 at-bats for a .425 average and added 49 RBI, 16 doubles and 12 home runs. He had 140 hits in two seasons and 26 doubles. Helped Hartselle reach the 5A state finals the past two seasons, winning it the title in 2009.

Cayle Shambaugh, Jay (Jay, Okla.), Outfield, Sr - Committed to Oklahoma, Shambaugh closed out a strong prep career by batting .443 with 10 home runs, 8 doubles and 40 RBI. He also stole 25 bases and was5-3 on the mound with a 0.67 ERA and 93 strikeouts in 41 innings pitched.

Kyle Carter, Columbus (Columbus, Ga.), Outfield, Soph - Named the Bi-City Player of the Year by the Columbus Ledger Enquirer, Carter boasted a 9-2 record with a 2.36 ERA as a pitcher while also hitting .410 with 9 home runs and 40 RBI for the Georgia AAA state champions.

Dillon Overton, Weatherford (Weatherford, Okla.), All-Purpose, Sr - Selected to the Oklahoman All-State Team starred on the mound and at the plate for Weatherford. He was 15-2 with a 0.51 ERA and 164 strikeouts in 97 innings pitched. On offense, he batted .469 with 16 home runs, 10 doubles, and 6 triples for the state champions. He will play at Oklahoma next year.

Scott Dierdorf, Hopewell (Aliquippa, Pa.), All-Purpose, Sr - The Player of the Year by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Dierdorf was undefeated on the mound with a 13-0 mark and a 1.94 ERA. He also struck out 111 batters in 83 innings pitched. Offensively, Dierforf belted 12 home runs and drove in 42 runners.

Cody Kukuk, Lawrence Free State (Lawrence, Kan.), All-Purpose, Sr - The 6A Player of the Year by the Kansas Coaches Association and the Gatorade State Player of the Year, Kukuk was 9-0 with a 0.92 ERA and 88 strikeouts in 53.1 innings pitched. he also batted .354 with 7 doubles, 8 home runs and 35 RBI.

Tyler Miller, Jonathan Alder (Plain City, Ohio), All-Purpose, Sr - Earned the Columbus Dispatch Metro Player of the Year honors after going 10-0 for the Division II state champions. He had three no-hitters during the season and had a 1.34 ERA. At the plate, Miller batted .469 with 41 RBI and four home runs.

Gabriel Encinas, St. Paul (Santa Fe Springs, Calif.), All-Purpose, Sr - The two-time area player of the year by the Whittier News, Encinas was 9-3 on the mound with a 1.39 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 75.1 innings pitched. The New York Yankees selected Encinas in the sixth round of the MLB Draft. He has also committed to play at Loyola Marymount.
