See a daring play from Laguna Beach senior Zak KovacicAndrew Daschbach of Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton) is the MaxPreps California Small Schools Baseball Player of the Year, but baseball might not even be his best sport.
That's heady stuff considering he was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays with the No. 1,200 overall pick in the draft and he is also committed to playing baseball at Stanford next year.
The five-sport athlete was also a MaxPreps small schools all-American at tight end in football and he was a member of the Sacred Heart Prep basketball team. To top it off, Daschbach reportedly has a 6-handicap in golf and, according to the San Jose Mercury News, he has been recruited to play lacrosse at the college level.
Despite his all-around skills, Daschbach's future is likely in baseball. He was the Peninsula Athletic League Player of the Year and he earned all-area honors by the Mercury News. He committed to Stanford in August of 2015, the alma mater of his father Mark.
Daschbach heads the MaxPreps California Small Schools All-State Team, which consists of 60 players split into two units. Small schools are those that play in the following state enrollment divisions: Southern 5, 6, 7; San Diego 4, 5; Central 4, 5, 6; Central Coast 2; Sac-Joaquin 4, 5, 6, 7; North Coast 4, 5, 6; Northern 3, 4, 5, 6.
