The Washington Eagles will face off against the Lincoln Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Washington has given up an average of 8.1 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Washington came up short against Hillsdale on Saturday, falling 12-1. The Eagles have struggled against the Fighting Knights recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Andrew Kim made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Meanwhile, it can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lincoln had no problem doing just that on Monday. They never let the Pumas get on the board and left with a 9-0 victory. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Wyatt Toloski and Mason Wong were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Toloski tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wong didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lincoln is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-13 otherwise. At bat, Toloski went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs, while Wong went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Toloski a new career-high.
In other batting news, Nicholas Chiu was incredible, going 1-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Dexter Palmer was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Washington's loss dropped their record down to 11-17. As for Lincoln, they moved to 14-15 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Washington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lincoln struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Washington might still be hurting after the 8-2 defeat they got from Lincoln in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
