Mills hasn't had much luck against Woodside recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. Mills will face off against Woodside at 4:00 p.m. Woodside took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Mills, who comes in off a win.
Mills took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against Half Moon Bay, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Mills had just enough and edged out Half Moon Bay 1-0. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Not much got past Tino Janke, who gave up just a hit to keep Half Moon Bay off the board. That's the fewest hits Janke has allowed since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Nate Lafon, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Givanni Angelini also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, Woodside didn't have quite enough to beat Hillsdale on Friday and fell 5-4.
Joseph Hohl was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Jeremiah Arias Torres was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5.
Even though they lost, Woodside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in three consecutive matchups.
Woodside now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Mills, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mills has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Woodside struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Mills couldn't quite get it done against Woodside in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 as they fell 5-1. Can Mills avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
