Temecula Prep has gone a perfect 10-0 against Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Patriots will square off against the Mustangs at 3:30 p.m. Temecula Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Temecula Prep got the win against San Jacinto Leadership Academy by a conclusive 12-1. The Patriots haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Temecula Prep got a massive performance out of Nikolaz Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most RBI Gonzalez has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Noah Scarlett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Temecula Prep always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .567. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as San Jacinto Leadership Academy only posted an OBP of .316.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They lost 25-7 to San Jacinto Valley Academy.
Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sean Bender, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one double. Bender is becoming a predictor of the Mustangs' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 3-1 (and 4-6 when he doesn't). Brandon Vera was another, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Temecula Prep's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Temecula Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Temecula Prep skirted past Saint Jeanne de Lestonnac Catholic School 4-2 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Patriots since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
