The Orland Trojans will head out on the road to take on the University Prep Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Orland has given up an average of 9.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Orland managed to slip by West Valley the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Orland came up short against West Valley on Friday, falling 12-1.
Orland saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Schager, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most stolen bases Schager has posted since back in May of 2024.
Meanwhile, University Prep won against Corning last Tuesday with nine runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. University Prep didn't even let Mt. Shasta on the board, marking University Prep's second-straight 9-0 shutout. Considering the Panthers have won five contests by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jacob Lindell looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no walks, which is notable because University Prep is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-3-1 otherwise.
On the hitting side, University Prep let Kaos Martin and Waylon Stripling run wild. Martin scored three runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances, while Stripling went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. Martin also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tristin Raglin, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.
The win (which was University Prep's third in a row) raised their record to 5-3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.0 runs on average over those games. As for Orland, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.
Orland came out on top in a nail-biter against University Prep in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Orland since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
