The Escalon Cougars typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the Hughson Huskies proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top against the Cougars by a score of 61-53. The win made it back-to-back wins for Hughson.
It was another big night for Madi Duron, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. Gracie Quillen was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven assists and seven rebounds.
Despite the loss, Escalon saw an underclassman step up: Arianna Velasco scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Velasco has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammy Lang, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.
Hughson has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Escalon, their defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hughson will take on Ripon Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Ripon Christian is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Escalon won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Hilmar at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th. Hilmar will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 695th, while Escalon is ranked 163rd).
