The Shafter Generals waltzed into Saturday's matchup with four straight wins but they left with five. They snuck past Centennial with a 54-49 win. With that victory, Shafter brought their scoring average up to 50.3 points per game.
Shafter found their leader in underclassman Aliyah Escalera, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. Escalera is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Sydnee Macias was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds.
Shafter pushed their record up to 7-4 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.5 points per game. As for Centennial, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-3.
Shafter will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Orcutt Academy at 5:30 p.m. on December 27th. Centennial and Redwood will face off at 6:30 p.m. on December 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Redwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
