Murrieta Mesa is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Monday. They will head out to challenge the Chaparral Pumas at 3:30 p.m. Murrieta Mesa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Murrieta Mesa took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Foothill by a score of 6-3.
Murrieta Mesa got a great performance from Cooper Child as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.2 innings pitched. Child has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Murrieta Mesa's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Keegan Williams, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. Another was Zach Janczyk, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Chaparral was able to grind out a solid win over Roosevelt last Tuesday, taking the game 6-2.
Jaiden Lopez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Lopez was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-6. Those three hits gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Sebastian Zuniga looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Murrieta Mesa's record is now 9-2. As for Chaparral, their record now sits at 8-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Murrieta Mesa has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Murrieta Mesa beat Chaparral 6-3 when the teams last played back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rams since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
