Football Recap: Tucumcari Skates Past Cuba with Ease

While Tucumcari put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Cuba. The Rattlers blew past the Rams, posting a 40-0 win. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Rattlers also won the last time the pair played back in September of 2024.

Tucumcari got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nick Geon out in front who threw for 171 yards and five TDs, and also rushed for 64 yards. The Rattlers' leading receiver Luis Archuleta was Geon's top target yet again, picking up 69 receiving yards and three scores.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Tucumcari proved: they limited Cuba to a paltry 3.2 yards per carry. While one picked up at least two total tackles, Archuleta stood above the rest. He picked up 69 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Tucumcari didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.1.

Tucumcari's defense didn't let Richard Lovato., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Cuba's QB won't forget Niemiah Pacheco anytime soon given he sacked him twice. Pacheco has been hot recently, having posted at least one sack the last three times he's played.

Tucumcari now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Cuba, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After each having a week off, Tucumcari and Estancia will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 3. The Rattlers will be up against the Bears' rather soft defense (which has allowed 38 points per match), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Cuba, they will head out on the road to face off against Hozho Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. The contest will give the Rams their first taste of in-conference action this season.
