Foothill is 0-10 against Esperanza since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Foothill Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Esperanza Aztecs at 7:00 p.m. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Foothill has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Esperanza will arrive with five straight wins.
Foothill suffered their biggest defeat since December 28, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Brea Olinda on the road and fell 73-44. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Foothill in their matchups with Brea Olinda: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the defeat, Foothill had strong showings from Elize McAveney, who scored 19 points along with three steals, and Paige Bak, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bak has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jay Perez, who scored three points along with 14 rebounds.
Even though they lost, Foothill smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 13th loss (out of 18 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Meanwhile, Esperanza can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They blew past El Dorado 58-36. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory Esperanza has posted since December 19, 2023.
Foothill has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Esperanza, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-3.
Foothill was dealt a bruising 71-39 defeat at the hands of Esperanza in their previous matchup on January 5th. Can Foothill avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
