Even though the Cristo Rey Saints have not done well against the Buckingham Charter Knights recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Cristo Rey rang in the new year with a 31-19 win over Buckingham Charter. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Cristo Rey also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Cristo Rey was led to victory by Regina Antillo and Angelina Cortes. Antillo scored ten points, while Cortes scored 15 points. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Cortes has scored at least 25% of Cristo Rey's points.
Cristo Rey's victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-4. As for Buckingham Charter, they bumped their record down to 1-5 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cristo Rey has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Sacramento Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on January 6th. Sacramento Country Day comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. Buckingham Charter won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against John Adams Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th.
