Baseball Recap: Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak on the Road

Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Excelsior Charter, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy put the hurt on the Excelsior Charter Eagles with a sharp 17-5 victory on Monday. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Kevyn Espinoza made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Espinoza was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI.

In other batting news, Andrew Honnold was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Thornburgh, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .609. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5. As for Excelsior Charter, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Coincidentally, Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy and Excelsior Charter will both be playing Victor Valley Christian the next time they take the field. Excelsior Charter will host Victor Valley Christian at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday, while Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy will head out to face them at 3:00 p.m. on March 28th.
