The Leuzinger Olympians pushed their score all the way to 64 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Esperanza 68-64. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Leuzinger came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Esperanza is ranked 86th).
Loss or not, Leuzinger got some senior leadership from Dresha Moore who scored 24 points along with 9 rebounds and 5 steals and Madison Watts who scored 26 points. Watts scored a full 40.6% of Leuzinger's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Ashley Maciel was another key contributor, scoring 9 points.
Leuzinger's defeat dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Esperanza, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-1.
Leuzinger will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lake Washington at 5:30 p.m. on December 27th. Esperanza is on the road again on Friday and play against Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on December 15th.
