Monte Vista had lost ten straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-14 to make it 11. They came up short against the West Hills Wolf Pack, falling 12-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Monte Vista saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Gutierrez, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Another was Anthony Kephart, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
As for West Hills, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-10 record. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 21st (when they won 11-0).
On West Hills' side, Anthony Rosolino made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Rosolino has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Kaiden Chambers looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Joey Monetti was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of West Hills' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 4-9 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Hamilton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Monte Vista didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 5-3 loss against Santana on the 18th. As for West Hills, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 7-1 victory against Valhalla on the 21st.
