Each year since 2006, MaxPreps has recognized outstanding performers in high school football. America's source for high school sports continues the tradition to close out the 2020 season by naming the top player in each state. Selections are based on team success and individual excellence, in addition to local and state accolades.
Myles Purchase of
Cherry Creek (Greenwood Village) is the 2020 MaxPreps Colorado High School Football Player of the Year. The 5-foot-11, 175-pound running back and cornerback led the Bruins to their second consecutive 5A championship. On offense, he rushed 22 times for 256 yards and four touchdowns, but it was job as a lockdown cornerback that set him apart.
Purchase had 25 tackles and a state-best six interceptions to go along with six pass deflections in nine games. His efforts helped Cherry Creek increase its overall win streak to 23 games. In three varsity seasons, Purchase 114 tackles, 18 pass deflection and 16 interceptions.
The Cherry Creek star is headed to Iowa State next year, choosing the Cyclones over offers from Kansas, Central Michigan and Colorado State among others. Also a standout basketball player, Purchase averaged better than 13 points per game as a sophomore and a junior.
Each state's MaxPreps Player of the Year will be considered for inclusion in the MaxPreps All-America Team, which will be released Jan. 29.
