Izaak Navarrete was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Edison is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9-1 otherwise. Navarrete was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alberto Cervantes, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six stolen bases, four runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last nine games. Another player making a difference was Julian Avila, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Edison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .636. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Escalon hit Ripon with a four-run third inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Indians lost 8-1 to the Cougars. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Logan Spear was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.
Edison's victory bumped their record up to 8-10-1. As for Ripon, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-11.
Edison might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Ripon when the teams last played back in February of 2016. Will the Vikings have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
