Encinal dropped down to 12-3 on Wednesday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They came up short against the Alameda Hornets, falling 10-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Jets, who until this game were averaging 3.13 runs allowed.
Encinal got a good showing from Sebastian Brune, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits. Brune has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Zach Pippen was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Kainoa Otenbriet also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for Alameda, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.
On Alameda's side, Sam Berger made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. Berger also tossed no walks, which is notable because Alameda is 6-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 3-4 otherwise. Berger was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaden Noonan, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Kayden Thai, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
While Encinal had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
