The Arcadia Firebirds will challenge the Poquoson Islanders on Thursday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a seven-game winning streak alive.
Arcadia is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Amelia County get on the board and left with a 3-0 win.
The result came thanks to Ryann Giddens's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
Warhill typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Poquoson proved too difficult a challenge. They skirted past the Lions 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Islanders have posted since April 4th.
Natalie Klochak spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.
On the hitting side, Tinley Goodson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Brooklyn Mason was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.
Arcadia's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Poquoson, their win bumped their record up to 17-2.
Poquoson's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Thursday. Arcadia has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Poquoson, though, as they've been averaging only 2.7 strikeouts. Will Arcadia keep running through batters, or will the Islanders buck the trend?
Arcadia suffered a grim 15-0 defeat to Poquoson when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Firebirds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
