Basketball Recap: Mansfield Comes Up Short

Mansfield scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 57-56 to the Cowanesque Valley Indians. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2015.

Mansfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madelyn McNamara, who almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine steals. Kameron Lightner was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards.

Mansfield's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Cowanesque Valley, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Canton the next time they take the court. Mansfield will host Canton at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, while Cowanesque Valley will host them at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
