St. Helena is 9-1 against Cloverdale since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Saints are taking a road trip to take on the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. St. Helena's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Cloverdale's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
St. Helena is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Clear Lake on Tuesday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cardinals. The Saints' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
St. Helena saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Julian Earls, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cloverdale). They walked away with a 15-10 win over Middletown on Tuesday. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Cloverdale let Nolan Axell and Vann Randolph run wild. Axell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Randolph got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Axell has posted since back in March. Jordan Huls also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Cloverdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Cloverdale's win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-8. As for St. Helena, their loss dropped their record down to 13-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Helena has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cloverdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. Helena skirted past Cloverdale 8-6 in their previous meeting on April 1st. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saints since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
