Blair is 8-2 against Waverly since September of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Bears will square off against the Vikings at 2:00 p.m.
Blair heads in on the heels of a playoff matchup on Wednesday. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (8-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Their loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, Waverly faced Hastings in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Vikings were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Tigers. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 games by seven runs or more this season.
Alexis Bivens made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. Bivens was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blakeley Meyers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in September. Jill Hind was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Waverly was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .577. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in seven consecutive contests.
Waverly is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 22-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.5 runs over those games. As for Blair, their defeat dropped their record down to 27-9.
Blair was able to grind out a solid win over Waverly when the teams last played back in September, winning 12-9. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vikings turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
