The Woonsocket Villa Novans will face off against the Classical Purple at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Woonsocket has eight straight victories, Classical has seven straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Woonsocket's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Paul Cuffee 24-0. Considering the Villa Novans have won four matches by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Jordan Plante made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Plante was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jullian De Jesus was incredible, going 4-for-6 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those RBI were his first of the season. Patrick Munger was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
Woonsocket was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Paul Cuffee only posted a batting average of .000.
Meanwhile, Classical fell victim to Rogers and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 6-0.
Classical's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Woonsocket, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Classical's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Woonsocket hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .470. It's a different story for Classical, though, as they've only averaged .125. Will they be able to contain Woonsocket's hitters?
Everything went Woonsocket's way against Classical in their previous matchup back in April of 2019, as Woonsocket made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Villa Novans repeat their success, or do the Purple have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
