Basketball Recap: Glendale Comes Up Short

Glendale played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the La Joya Community Fighting Lobos and fell 70-37. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Fighting Lobos are ranked 137th).

Despite the defeat, Glendale had strong showings from Simon Sinohui, who went 7 for 15 on his way to 20 points and six boards, and Jevon Begay, who posted eight points. The dominant performance gave Sinohui a new career-high in points. Samuel Kasanda also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Joseph Rukundo continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for La Joya Community, going 7 of 15 en route to 17 points in addition to seven rebounds and seven steals. Another player making a difference was Donald Sannoh, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 14 points.

Glendale is on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-9. As for La Joya Community, they pushed their record up to 16-5 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Glendale will host Sierra Linda at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Glendale is facing Sierra Linda at the right time seeing as Sierra Linda is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for La Joya Community, they will be playing at home against Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Independence knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matchups -- so hopefully La Joya Community likes a good challenge.
