After flying high against the Rancho Mirage Rattlers last Tuesday, the La Quinta Blackhawks came back down to earth. La Quinta took a serious blow against Xavier Prep on Thursday, falling 51-18. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for La Quinta in their matchups with Xavier Prep: they've now lost four in a row.
When it comes to explaining why La Quinta lost, one person who can't be blamed is Keymora Salter. Despite the final result, she scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, La Quinta struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Xavier Prep racked up 12 assists.
It was another big night for Amoree Ferrel, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds for Xavier Prep. Another player making a difference was Grace Thomsen, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
La Quinta's defeat dropped their record down to 13-13. As for Xavier Prep, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 22-6 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Quinta is on the road again on Thursday and plays San Jacinto at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. San Jacinto will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something La Quinta surely won't give up without a fight. As for Xavier Prep, they will head out on the road to square off against Sunny Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Sunny Hills focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Thursday.
