The Laney Buccaneers put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down West Brunswick 61-47. Given Laney's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while West Brunswick is ranked 494th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Laney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hezron Driver led the charge by scoring eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eric Williams, who scored five points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Laney pushed their record up to 7-0 with that win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.8 points per game. As for West Brunswick, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.
Laney will head out on the road to face off against Ashley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Brunswick will be home for the holidays to greet Hoggard at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hoggard knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully West Brunswick likes a good challenge.
