The Chula Vista Spartans had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They claimed a resounding 60-23 win over San Ysidro at home. Chula Vista pushed the score to 46-13 by the end of the third, a deficit San Ysidro had no chance of recovering from.
Chula Vista's win on Wednesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Malissa Mckoy, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Mckoy has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Karla Lozano, who scored 11 points along with eight assists and three steals.
Despite the defeat, San Ysidro saw an underclassman step up: Kristine Fadriquela scored 13 points. That was a full 56.5% of San Ysidro's points, marking the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Chula Vista's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-14. As for San Ysidro, they dropped their record down to 0-18 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Chula Vista will challenge Otay Ranch at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Chula Vista has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for San Ysidro, they will head out on the road to challenge Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. San Ysidro comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last nine games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
