Basketball Game Preview: Orcutt Academy Spartans vs. Paso Robles Bearcats

The Orcutt Academy Spartans will challenge the Paso Robles Bearcats at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Orcutt Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.9 points per game this season.

Orcutt Academy saw some tournament action last Saturday. They took down El Diamante 67-52. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while the Miners are ranked 266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Elizabeth Johnson continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 35 points and 20 rebounds. Her evening made it 21 games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Iraya Bell-Jackson, who posted nine points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.

Orcutt Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 21 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, Paso Robles didn't have quite enough to beat Cabrillo last Saturday and fell 39-37. That's two games in a row now that the Bearcats have lost by exactly two points.

This is the second loss in a row for Paso Robles and nudges their season record down to 7-7. As for Orcutt Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.

Orcutt Academy and Paso Robles were neck-and-neck in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but Orcutt Academy came up empty-handed after a 56-55 defeat.
