Conwell-Egan Catholic dropped down to 16-5 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the La Salle College Explorers by a score of 7-6. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Explorers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on May 4th.
Brady Guzzie put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
In other batting news, Dan Frietag was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI.
As for La Salle College, they pushed their record up to 21-2 with the victory, which was their 11th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.
On La Salle College's side, Cooper Weiss looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Weiss has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, La Salle College let Brycen Clarke and Keegan Wade run wild. Clarke went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Wade went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Clarke has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Kaden Cortez, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Conwell-Egan Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for La Salle College, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Archbishop Wood at 4:00 p.m. The Explorers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season.
