Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Winters

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Winters ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top against the Buckingham Charter Knights by a score of 12-8. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly four runs.

Everett Beason made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Winters: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 4-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Cole Jordling was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Winters is 3-1 when Jordling posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise. Ricky Garcia was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

Winters kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win (which was Winters' third in a row) raised their record to 6-7. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Buckingham Charter, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Winters will square off against Woodland Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cardinals have averaged an impressive 11.2 runs per game this season. As for Buckingham Charter, they will take on Encina at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Knights are facing the Bulldogs at the right time seeing as the Bulldogs are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
