The Azusa Aztecs will head out on the road to face off against the San Gabriel Matadors at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Azusa has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 4.
Last Monday, Azusa had to suffer through a rough 55-16 loss at the hands of Garey. Azusa was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-9.
Even though they lost, Azusa were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Garey only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, San Gabriel's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Sierra Vista, falling 58-25.
Azusa bumped their record down to 6-9 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.7 points per game. As for San Gabriel, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-9.
Azusa and San Gabriel were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in December of 2014, but Azusa came up empty-handed after a 51-50 loss. Can Azusa avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
