In other batting news, Thomas Coleman made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Justin Howard was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, after low-scoring totals in their previous four contest, St. Vincent de Paul brought some dynamite into their most recent game. They put the hurt on South Fork with a sharp 13-3 victory on Saturday. The Mustangs' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Montgomery, St. Vincent de Paul also got a great game from a two-way player: Will Hankins. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Hankins a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, three runs, and three stolen bases.
In other batting news, Jacob Troy was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Tyler Chelew also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
St. Vincent de Paul always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
St. Vincent de Paul moved to 4-17 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. As for Montgomery, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-13.
Everything went Montgomery's way against St. Vincent de Paul in their previous matchup back in April, as Montgomery made off with a 15-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
