Using an overpowering fastball and effective off-speed pitch, sophomore Daniel Aguilo struck out 21 batters as
Elmont Memorial (Elmont, N.Y.) blanked winless Hempstead (N.Y.) 12-0 in a seven-inning baseball game earlier this week.
Only a walk in the fifth and seventh inning kept him from true perfection. Also a talented defensive shortstop, Aguilo, never had struck out more than 13 previously in his career.
Aguilo had been raked for 10 runs in his previous start, a 10-8 loss to Sewanhaka (Floral Park, N.Y.).

Maxwell (Calif.) senior
Steve Perry yielded a second-inning single to Mat Sanders on Thursday, ending his state-record-tying streak of four consecutive no-hitters. He gave up one hit in five innings during a 10-0 win over Sutter (Calif.).
"It's a big relief," Perry told the Sun-Herald. "I don't have the pressure to have to be perfect. I can just throw."
The following day Perry didn't allow a hit in four innings of relief during a 6-0 win over Truckee. In 40 innings this season, Perry (8-0) has allowed three hits, no runs, struck out 88 and walked five.
He's not a shabby hitter either, with a .547 average (35 of 64) with 13 doubles, two home runs and 31 RBI.

Tyler Wells is 8-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 81 strikeouts in 40 innings. He's hitting .607 with seven homers and 56 RBI for Maxwell (21-0).
