Nueva Esperanza were the 23-17 winner over the South Philadelphia Rams when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Nueva Esperanza fell 37-30 to the Rams on Monday. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Nueva Esperanza has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Nueva Esperanza saw an underclassman step up: Destiny Santiago scored 15 points. Another player making a difference was Glorivee Moreno, who scored five points.
South Philadelphia's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Halimah Blackwell, who scored 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kareema Broady, who scored 11 points.
Nueva Esperanza's defeat dropped their record down to 4-3. As for South Philadelphia, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nueva Esperanza will play host again and welcome the Knights, where tip off is scheduled for 3:15 p.m. on Friday. As for South Philadelphia, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against the Panthers at 3:15 p.m. Jules E. Mastbaum Vo-Tech comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last nine games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
