Everett Alvarez extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 4-20. They lost 9-2 to the Stevenson Pirates. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Pirates this season, with their most recent loss being a 19-0 defeat back in April.
Adriel Jacobo was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Roman Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one run.
As for Stevenson, they have been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.
On Stevenson's side, Phinn Thomas made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Thomas has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs.
In other batting news, Stevenson let Alex Wang and Luke Potter run wild. Wang got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Potter got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two runs gave Potter a new career-high. Jacob Hall was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Coming up, Everett Alvarez will head out to face off against King City at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Mustangs have averaged an impressive 8.7 runs per game this season. As for Stevenson, they will welcome Pacific Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
