Harker has gone 8-2 against Westmoor recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Eagles will head out to challenge the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Harker was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Jefferson on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers stepped up to hand the Grizzlies a 10-0 shutout.
Shaurya Jain was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in February.
In other pitching news, Mason Brooks looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, Harker let Arturo Vilalta and Aditya Guru run wild. Vilalta went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base, while Guru got on base in all three of his plate appearances with three RBI. Those two hits gave Vilalta a new career-high. Yash Greene was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs.
Meanwhile, the third road matchup was the charm for Westmoor, as they earned their first away victory of the season. They blew past Crystal Springs Uplands 14-5 on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Rams needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Jeremy Zhang made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Westmoor is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-5 otherwise. Zhang was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Joshua Francisco was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Adolfo Fitoria, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Westmoor always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Harker is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Westmoor, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Harker was able to grind out a solid win over Westmoor when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
